8 killed in road crashes

Eight people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Bagerhat, Kishoreganj, Dinajpur, Natore and Sirajganj early Monday and yesterday. Our Narayanganj correspondent reports: Three people were killed on the spot when a private car hit a Narsingdi-bound pickup van from behind on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Bhulata in Rupganj upazila on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Jahirul Islam, 45, driver of the car, Anisur Rahman Anis, 45, and Torab Ali, 40. A correspondent from Bagerhat says: A truck ran over Nazma Begum, 45, on Bagerhat-Morelganj road near Daiboggohati Bridge in Morelganj upazila on Monday night, leaving her critically injured. She succumbed to her injuries at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital on arrival. In Kishoreganj, motorcyclist Md Mehedi Hasan, 30, of Gafargaon village in Mymensingh, was killed and three others were injured as his bike collided head-on with another bike on Kishoreganj-Hossainpur highway at Duljuri in Hossaipur upazila at around 10:00am yesterday. In Dinajpur, a motorbike hit minor boy Bijoy Das, son of Biren Das of Kaharol upazila, while he was crossing the Chawrangi road of the upazila in the district yesterday, injuring him seriously. He died at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. In Natore, Isahaq Ali, 70, of Baraigram upazila, died as a motorbike hit him from behind on Natore-Dhaka highway at Razzak square in the upazila on Monday evening. In Sirajganj, cattle trader Abdur Rashid, 50, son of Afaz Uddin, was killed and two others were injured when a cattle-laden truck fell into a ditch beside Nagarbari-Bogra highway at Bhuiyangati in Raiganj upazila yesterday.
