Runa Laila's mother passes away
Amina Laila, mother of celebrated singer Runa Laila, passed away at a city hospital yesterday at the age of 87. Amina, also a veteran singer and lyricist, had been undergoing treatment in the city's Square Hospital after suffering from a cardiac arrest on January 18. She left behind her daughter Runa and son Syed Ali Murad, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Amina, wife of late Syed Mohammed Emdad Ali, will be laid to rest at Banani graveyard following namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan's Azad mosque after Zohr prayers today. "My mother has had tremendous contributions for the Runa Laila I am today," said Runa talking to The Daily Star. Runa said she had rendered many songs written by her mother.
