Man sentenced to death for killing niece
A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his niece Sadia Nawshin Prianka, a first year student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, in July 2007.
Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 handed down the verdict after recording statements of 26 prosecution witnesses including parents of the victim.
Prianka was strangled by his maternal uncle Zahidul Haque Rintu inside their flat in the city's Moghbazar on July 18, 2007 as her parents asked him to leave their house for his alleged involvement with criminal activities.
The next day, father of the victim filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station against Rintu for his involvement in the killing.
