Textiles mill fined
The Department of Environment (DoE) in a drive yesterday fined DN Textiles Mills Ltd in Madhobdi of Narshingdi district Tk 50 lakh for polluting Brahmaputra river for the last decade by discharging untreated liquid waste.
The textile mill, set up in 2002, has been running illegally without environment clearance certificate and effluent treatment plant (ETP) since its inception.
A DoE team led by Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, director of monitoring and enforcement, ordered closure of their operation until they set up ETP in the factory.
