Bomb blast kills teenage boy, injures another

A teenage boy was killed and another critically injured as an abandoned bomb went off in Parbatipur upazila of the district yesterday, police said. The dead was identified as Md Shakil Ali, 15, son of late Shahjahan Ali of Chakmusa village of the upazila. The injured, Sabbir Ahmed 14, son of Khademul Islam of the same village, was admitted to Parbatipur upazila Heath Complex. Police quoted locals as saying that Shakil and Sabbir went to adjoining Chanmari village at around 3:30pm and found a bomb in an open space. As Shakil was about to toss the bomb to Sabbir, it exploded with a big bang, killing him on the spot and injuring Sabbir, they said. Locals said the bomb was found outside the boundary wall of the firing range complex of Shaheed Mahbud Army Cantonment in Parbatipur. Police said the cantonment is about 2-km off the firing range and the bomb exploded outside the boundary wall. Soon after the incident, police and army personnel visited the spot. Shawkat Ali, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur police station, said an investigation into the incident is going on.
