A schoolboy was strangled allegedly by his cousin as a sequel to a longstanding family feud over a land at Nowdabash village in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Saturday. The victim, Mizu Ahmed, 8, was a class three student of Nowdabsh Government Primary School. Locals caught the alleged killer, Hafizur Rahman, 18, son of Monsur Bepari, soon after the incident and handed over him over to Hatibandha police. Victim's father Mostafizur Rahman filed a murder case with Hatibandha police station the same day. In the case statement, Mostafiz stated that a dispute with his brother Monsur over the ownership of a 20 decimal land has been going on for years. “Hafizur killed my only son in a pre-planned way as a sequel to the dispute.” he alleged. Police recovered Mizu's body from a paddy field at the village and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, said Hafizur confessed to killing Mizu during preliminary interrogation. Hafizur was later produced in the Judicial Magistrate's court that sent him to jail, rejecting his bail prayer.
