Son killed senior lawyer advocate Shamsul Islam Chowdhury and dumped the body in the Surma River to grab his property, three arrestees, who helped the killing, told Rab during interrogation. RAB-9 Deputy Director Abdullah Ibne Jayed at a press briefing on Saturday said they arrested Md Borhan, 30, at Mir Bostula in Sylhet city on Thursday and Md Ismail Hossain, 24, and Md Ansar Ali, 25, at a village in Chhatak upazila on Friday. During quizzing, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the killing, Jayed told journalists. They (arrestees) said Masud Ahmed Chowdhury Munna, youngest son of advocate Shamsul Islam Chowdhury, hired them and one Zaher Ali to help him kill his father on Shab-e-Barat on July 17. As Shamsul Islam was offering prayers in a room at his Mir Bostula residence on the night of July 17, Masud along with the four sneaked into the room and strangled his father at around 10:30pm.They also pushed two poisonous injections into his chest to confirm his death. The killers then took the body to Chhatak in a private car and dumped it into the Surma in Andarkhan area at around 2:00am. Mahmud Ahmed Chowdhury, eldest son of the victim, who was staying in Dhaka on professional ground during the grisly murder, filed a case with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on August 4, accusing Masud, his wife Jaheda Begum Janu and their domestic help Alal. Masud, his wife Jaheda and domestic help Alal have been absconding since the incident, Rab said.
