Rangpur inter-city train service resumes today
Intercity train service on Dhaka-Rangpur-Dhaka route will resume today.
Railway sources said the train named Rangpur Express with 11 compartments will leave Rangpur station at 7:40pm and reach Dhaka at 6:35am and again it will leave Dhaka at 9:00am and reach Rangpur at 7:00 pm everyday.
Communications Minister Sayed Abul Hossain will inaugurate the train service at Rangpur Railway Station at 4:00pm, sources in the deputy commissioner's office said.
BNP-led four-party alliance government suspended services of two intercity trains--Teesta Express and Ekata Express-on Dhaka-Rangpur Dkaka route in 2001.
Meanwhile, Rangpur Motor Sramik Union called off its indefinite transport strike yesterday afternoon following a meeting with the district administration.
In the meeting, the district administration assured the Motor Sramik Union leaders of meeting their demands after Eid.
Sramik union enforced the strike in six norther districts--Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram--from yesterday morning to press home its five-point demand including repair of roads.
The other demands include repair of Rangpur central bus stand and ban on "nasimon", "karimon" (locally made engine-run vehicles) and battery-run rickshaws on the highways.
