Bail prayer of main accused rejected

Kepru Marma, prime accused in Thuipru Marma murder case, was sent to jail yesterday. He was produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent him to jail, rejecting the bail prayer. Police yesterday arrested another man in connection with the murder. The arrestee is Ulapru Marma, 25, also the brother-in-low of the victim. Thuipru Marma was killed by his distant cousin Kepru Marma and his men at Wakchhari village under Manikchhari upazil early Friday following a feud with his relatives over his second marriage. Puluma Marma, second wife of Thuipru Marma, filed a murder case with Manikchhari Police Station the same day, accusing Kepru Marma and seven to eight unidentified people of killing her husband. In the case statement, Puluma said a gang of criminals led by Kepru stormed into their house at around 3:00am on Friday. They tied Thuipru's hands and legs, took him to a nearby field and slit his throat, she added. Soon after filing of the case, police arrested Kepru Marma at Wakchhari village the village. Sub-Inspector Abul Khair, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said they arrested Ulapru Marma at his relative's house at the village early yesterday on the basis of Kepru's statement. During preliminary interrogation, Kepru confessed to his involvement in the killing, said Assistant Superintend of Police Al Asad Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam. Nasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Manikchhari Police Station, said they have launched a drive to arrest the rest of the accused in the case.
