New museum piece

Police handed over an old wooden image to Mahasthangarh Archaeological Museum in Bogra on Sunday as per order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Kurigram district. "The image, showing a mother and her two sons, the elder one holding the other, was made possibly during the British rule in South Africa or Europe as a showpiece," said Naheed Sultana, custodian of Mahasthangarh Archaeological Museum. About 10 inches high, the black colour image is set on a stand carved out of the same piece of wood. "The wooden image was found at a pond near Ulipur police station during an investigation in November 2006. Following my request, the chief judicial magistrate of Kurigram ordered handing over the rare object to the Department of Archaeology on June 6 this year," Md Mozammel Haque, officer in charge of Ulipur PS in Kurigram, told over cell phone on Monday.
