Schoolboy IranPolice have arrested the killer of nine-year-old schoolboy Iran at Dhala village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
Arrested on Saturday, Ahmed Sarif Dipu, 22, a distant cousin of Iran's father late Emdadul Haq, confessed to killing the boy to marry his mother Renuka Khatun and grab their two acres of land, court sources said.
While giving statement before Meherpur Judicial Magistrate's Court under Section 164, Dipu said he often visited Renuka at her house after Emdadul's death and developed a relationship with her.
According to police, Emdadul was murdered by a local gang on August 1 in 2008.
“I wanted to marry Renuka a year ago, but she refused, considering the future of her only son Iran,” Dipu said, adding that he decided to kill Iran as Renuka was continuously refusing to marry him on the same plea.
Dipu in his statement said he called Iran while he was playing with his friends on a field at Dhala village at around 6:00pm on Friday. “I bought him chanachur and biscuits from a shop at the local market. Later, I took Iran to a nearby jute field, strangled him and slit the throat with a sharp weapon,” Dipu told the court.
Locals found Iran's body on the jute field on Saturday morning and informed the police who recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy.
After filing a case with Gangni Police Station by Iran's uncle Jahangir, Police arrested Dipu's close friend Hasan of the village. On the basis of his statement, the law enforcers arrested Dipu at the same village.
