To grab pension money?
A retired schoolteacher was beaten to death allegedly by in-laws at Ronorampur village under Sharifpur union in Jamalpur Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
The victim, Hazrat Ali, 60, hailing from Battola village under Bashchora union in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, was a former teacher of Islampur Nekjahan Pilot High School.
In January this year, Hazrat Ali settled at Ronarampur village near his in-laws' house after retirement from the school, said the victim's relatives.
"On Tuesday night, Hazrat Ali and his wife Rahima Khatun Renu locked in an altercation over a trifling matter. At one stage, father-in-law Nawab Ali and brothers-in-law Muktar Hossain and Joynal Abedin beat Hazrat Ali with sticks to death. We were informed of the death news at 2:00am," said Azizul Haque, nephew of the victim.
When contacted, victim's cousin Abdur Rahim said, "Hazrat Ali got Tk 2 lakh 85 thousand as his pension in January this year. There might be feud between him and his in-laws that finally caused his death."

Police sent the body to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy yesterday evening.
