The Bangladeshi citizen was identified as Anwar Hossain Bablu, 27, son of Mortuza Ali, of Panditpara village under Monkasha union in Shibgonj upazila of Chapainawabganj. Acting on a tip off, BGB members at Shingnagar border observation post (BOP) arrested them from Namopara field of Shingnagar frontier area, some 500 yards inside Bangladesh territory from zero line. They had crossed the border by cutting barbed wire, said Lt Col Abu Bakar Abu, Commanding Officer of 39 Border Guard Battalion. During interrogation, the Indian nationals told BGB officials that they often cut barbed wire fences and enter Bangladesh territory for smuggling goods. The detainees were handed over to Shibgonj police station yesterday noon. Earlier, a battalion commander level meeting was held at Shingnagar frontier on July 31 where the Indian side alleged that Bangladeshi people cut barbed fencing but BGB refuted that allegation, said Lt Col Abu Bakar Abu. He said, Indian people cut their barbed fencing themselves to send smuggled goods into Bangladesh territory through various border points.
