Rokeya university moves to its permanent site

Begum Rokeya University has been shifted to its permanent campus from Rangpur Teachers Training College compound where the university ran academic activities for about three years. After the July 28 shifting, vice-chancellor Abdul Jalil said, “We thank almighty Allah as we could finish the construction work of the major establishments in two and a half years. We also thank the government for all-out support it expended to us" Asif Kibria, a student of the department of computer science said, “We never thought that we would really be able to attend our classes on our own campus so earlier. We feel proud for it" On October 12, 2008, the university started its journey at Rangpur Teachers Training College. As there was not enough space on the temporary campus, the authorities hired a building at Lalkuthi for the administrative work. The university at the beginning had six departments. In 2009, the number of departments increased to 12 and the academic activities were continuing on the temporary campus till end of July. For the university, the government acquired 75 acres of land belonging to Carmichael College in 2009 and began to construct buildings there at a cost of Tk 1.20 crore. The permanent campus have six faculty building, one administrative buildings, and three hostels for students, besides the vice-chancellor's residential quarters and two dormitories.
