Flood victims Adam Ali, Khaibar Mia and others at Kalmati village in Khuniayagachh said torrential rain and water rolling from upstream caused the flooding. They expressed the fear that the floodwater will damage their aman crops if it did not recede within a short time. Yaqub Ali, a flood victim at Sindurna village of Hatibandha said, "We are facing acute shortage of food and drinking water." According to deputy director of district Agriculture Extension Department (AED) Abdul Mojid around 6000 acres of aman crop has gone under water in the Teesta and Dharla river basin areas in the affected upazilas. “If the water doesn't recede within a few days most of the crop will be damaged," he said.
