Woman murdered allegedly by college teacher husband

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry in the town on Sunday. Victim Mokima Akhter Moon, 32, was wife of college teacher Shajahan Mahmud, of Rahmatur village in Phulbari upazila. Mobin Haque Chowdhury Tuhin, elder brother the deceased filed a case with Dinajpur police station on Sunday night accusing Shajahan, a lecturer of local Biral Degree College. According to the case statement, the accused used to torture Mokima for dowry. On Saturday, Shajahan beat her dead at their residence in Ghasiapara area of the town, it said. Neighbours said the couple locked in an altercation late at night and at one stage Shajahan beat Makima dead. Mobin also told this correspondent that Shajahan called him over cell phone at around 3.30pm Sunday and informed that his sister is dead. Hearing the incident, he rushed to Dinajpur from Phulbari upazila and found the door of their house locked from outside. He informed the police and a team led by OC of Dinajpur police station visited the spot and recovered the body at about 5:00pm. Police also recovered a stick which was allegedly used to beat the victim. Police said Makima died due to excessive bleeding. Shajahan Mahmud went into hiding immediately after the incident, police said. In Rangpur, a woman was tortured to death allegedly by her husband at Radhanagar Pramanikpara village in Badarganj upazila on Saturday night as she refused to allow him to wed another woman. The victim was identified as Amena Begum, 30, wife of Yunus Ali of the village, reports UNB.
