Two women murdered allegedly by husbands

Two housewives were murdered allegedly by husbands in Jamalpur and Khulna yesterday and on Thursday. A housewife was killed allegedly by husband in Melandaha upazila of Jamalpur yesterday. Police said, Harun-or-Rashid, 55, of village Munsinangla of the upazila locked in a quarrel with his wife Nilufa Akhter Kulsum, 48, over a trifling matter. At one stage, he hit his wife in the head with an axe. She was first rushed to Melandaha upazila health complex and then shifted to Jamalpur General Hospital. Later she died on way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, reports our correspondent. After the incident, Harun went into hiding. In Khulna, a housewife was killed allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Nurnagar in Khalishpur on Thursday. Victim Asma Khatun, 40, was daughter of Azgar Ali of Shibbari Palpara of the town. Family sources said Asma was married off with Kanu Bhuiyan in 1987. Kanu used to torture Asma over trifling matter regularly. On the fateful day, Kanu tortured Asma to death. Later, he hanged her body from the ceiling fan to prove that she had committed suicide. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital for autopsy. The body was handed over to Asma's family after autopsy. Kanu went into hiding after the incident, police said.
