Unrest at factory
Workers at two units of Opsonin Group of Industries here yesterday staged demonstrations to press home their 15-point demand including timely payment of their wages.
The other demands include regularisation of their jobs, pay rise, free meal during working hours, medical and city allowances, training for workers and regular meeting between workers and the management.
The workers vandalised Opso Saline Factory at Kobi Jibanananda Sarak and brought out a procession inside Global Capsule Factory at Rupatali Industrial Area in the town at around 7:00am, management sources said.
They damaged furniture and computers at Opso Saline Factory and prevented officials from entering the factory, sources added.
Witnesses said at least eight workers were injured while trying to resist vandalism. The agitating workers also blocked the road in front of the factories.
A delegation from Opsonin Group of Industries headquarters in Dhaka arrived here yesterday evening to negotiate with the agitating workers, said Saidur Rahman Khan, an executive (admin) of Opso Saline Factory.
