A trial court here on Tuesday afternoon recorded deposition of five more prosecution witnesses (PW) in the case for alleged attempt to kill Sheikh Hasina in 2001. The PWs are Binoy Sinha, Salah Uddin, MA Khan Shahin, Md. Zahid Khan Shahed and Putul Miah. Additional District and Sessions Judge-III Manzurul Haque Khan recorded the deposition in the case filed after the blast in the city's Fazilchist area killing two people on 26 September, 2001. The incident took place as a bomb suddenly went off at a house ahead of AL chief Sheikh Hasina's concluding public rally in Sylhet before the 2001 elections. The accused in the case ? Huji kingpin Mufti Abdul Hannan, Maulana Abu Sayeed, Abu Obaida Harun, Masud Ahmed Shakil and Sheikh Shahjahan ? were also produced in the court. However, the other accused, house owner Dr Arif Ahmed Rifa, is on bail in the case. Outlawed Huji men had planned to kill Sheikh Hasina during her last election rally at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground on the night of September 26, 2001, the Investigation Officer (IO) said in his charge sheet. Two young men were killed and another was injured as a bomb went off at Dr Arif's house in the city's Fazilchist area hours before the rally. Police stated in the case statement that the outlaws were making powerful bombs at the house to kill Hasina. Locals caught injured Masud Ahmed Shakil while fleeing the scene soon after the blast. The judge on Tuesday, fixed 12 September for recording depositions of the rest PWs. Additional District and Sessions Judge-V Md. Nazir Ahmed also recorded the deposition of the said PWs in the other case filed on charge of murder in the same incident. He also set 12 September for recording deposition of the rest PWs.
