Tala upazila town has been submerged as water from the Kobadak entered the area, overflowing the banks of the silted river. Around 25,000 townspeople face immense trouble as most of the roads have gone under three to four feet water. Incessant rain since July 21 caused the silted Kobadak to overflow its banks on Monday and flood the upazila headquarters. Smooth functioning at the government offices, banks and educational institutions is being hampered as those have been inundated. Tala upazila Bhaban has gone under three to four feet water. People living in the low-lying areas of the town face immense trouble as water entered their houses. Stagnant water in the areas is polluting environment and creating health hazard to the dwellers. Due to lack of drains, rain water inundates the low-lying areas in the upazila town every year and creates water logging. But the authorities concerned have not yet taken any measure to solve the problem, alleged advocate Abdur Rahman, a resident of the upazila town. Water logging also causes sufferings to the people living in other parts of the town due to poor drainage system, he added. Advocate Rahim urged the authorities concerned to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Principal Enamul Haque of Tala Muktijoddha College said water logging in the town has taken a serious turn this year, making the lives of townspeople miserable. Contacted, Tala upazila Parishad Chairman Sanat Kumar said he has already sent a letter to the authorities concerned to solve the water logging problem. He said the entire upazila headquarters and its adjacent areas are now under flood water.
