Enraged at power outage, several hundred people at Sadullapur upazila headquarters vandalised Palli Bidyut Samity office on Tuesday night. After Tarabi prayers, devotees came out of mosques and brought out a procession demanding uniterruped and regular power supply to the area. While parading through the upazila headquarters, the power-hungry people hurled brick chips at the local power office. They then besieged the official residence of Sadullapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) demanding smooth power supply in the area, especially in the month of Ramadan. The agitating people lifted the siege after an hour and again attacked the power office. They damaged main gate, furniture, windowpanes of the office. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police said locals became agitated due to power cut during iftar, sehri and Tarabi prayers . Locals said they get electricity only for four to five hours during daytime and the whole area plunges into darkness after 7:00pm. “We are not getting required electricity from Power Development Board (PDB). We informed the higher authorities of the present situation and urged them to increase power supply in the area,” said Masum Ahmed, assistant manager Sadullapur Palli Bidyut Samity.
