One hurt as PCJSS, UPDF trade fire in Khagrachhari
Activists of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) traded fire in Bagyapara area under Lakshmichhari upazila on Tuesday evening leaving one person hit by bullet.
The injured was identified as Prosanta Chakma, 25, son of Shyamal Chakma of Jurgachhari village in the same upazila.
Officer in-charge of Lakshmichhari police station Md Kamrul Islam said that the gunfight occurred at about 4:30pm over establishing supremacy in the area and the rival groups fired 10 to 15 rounds of bullet.
On information, police and army patrol teams rushed to the spot, he said. The injured man was admitted to Lakshmichhari upazila health complex and later referred to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, he added.
Contacted, press secretary of central PCJSS Sajib Chakma said, he was unaware about the incident.
However, press secretary of district UPDF Niron Chakma in a press release said that a group of PCJSS backed criminals numbering 10-15 entered Bagyapara village Tuesday evening and forced the villagers to pay toll.
At one stage, the criminals opened fire at the villagers as they drove them out of the village, the press released added.
