Sedition charges dropped against 100 BGB men

Sedition cases against 49 Jawans of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) Khulna sector and 51 jawans of Sylhet sector have been withdrawn as per directive of the home ministry. In Khulna, Magistrate of the Metropolitan Court No-4 (Khalishpur-Daulatpur) Md Keramat Ali relieved 49 BGB jawans of sedition charges on July 26 following an appeal made by Public prosecutor (PP) Kazi Abu Shahin, our staff correspondent quoting court sources said. On May 12 in 2009, the then officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station Md Abdul Kayyum Sarder filed sedition cases against the jawans of 23 Battalion with the CMM's Court for their involvement in the mutiny at the battalion on February 25 and 26 in 2009. The BGB jawans relieved of sedition charges are subedars Mosharraf Hossain, Abul Kalam, Nazimuddin and Nazrul Islam; havilders Shahidul Islam, Azad Hossain, Giashuddin, Jahirul Islam, Saifuddin, Farhad Hossain, and Sohrab Hossain; naiks Shahjahan Ali, Tajul Islam, Rajab Ali, Awlad Shah and Kamal Hossain; sepoys Shaheb Ali, Abdur Rouf, Mokhlesur Rahman, Ferdous Wahid, Iqbal Hossain, Solaiman, Saidur Rahman, Ayub Ali, Faruque Hossain, Basiruddin, Emdadul Haque, Farhad Hossain, Moniruzzaman, Monirul Islam, Mashiur Rahman, Ibrahim Dhali, Zahidul Islam, Mesbah Uddin, Khairul Islam, Anisur Rahman, Kazi Abdur Razzak, Farid Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Korban Ali, Md Zahidul Haque, Shamim Hossain and Solaiman Mia; naiks Omar Ali, Akinur Rahman, Bulbul Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Humayun Kabir and Md. Delwar Hossain. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet reported that District and Sessions Judge Md Momin Ullah relieved 51 jawans 21 Battalion of sedition charges On July 26. Following a mutiny at the battalion on February 26 in 2009, Md Syeduzzaman, the then officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, filed the sedition cases against the jawans with the judicial Magistrate's Court. A BGB special court later framed mutiny charges against 51 jawans of the battalion and punished them.
