Death of a housewife on Saturday allegedly due to a doctor's neglect was protested in Sirajganj yesterday while two housewives were murdered allegedly by husbands in Kushtia and Chuadanga on Saturday. Students of Sabuj Kanan High School and their guardians yesterday formed a human chain in front of the school gate in Sirajganj town, protesting death of a housewife at a private hospital on Saturday. Soma Saha died hours after giving birth to a child due to 'excessive bleeding' after she was admitted to Avicenna Hospital at around 8:00pm on Friday. Alleging neglect, relatives and locals attacked the hospital and assaulted Abu Ahmed Shahidullah, deputy civil surgeon of the district, who also works at the hospital. Later police brought the situation under control and held seven people including Dr Shamima Aziz who allegedly let nurse Kaniz Fatema to perform the delivery. Students from other institutions and cross sections of people joined the hour-long human chain and demanded punishment to the persons responsible for Soma's death. They declared Dr A M Mosadeque Masum, managing director of the hospital, 'unwanted' in Sirajganj. Earlier, Dr Mosadeque filed an 'extortion case' against 11 people on Sunday under the Speedy Trial Act. Meanwhile, two housewives were killed allegedly by husbands in Kushtia and Chuadanga on Saturday, reports our Kushtia correspondent. Police recovered hung body of Tuni Khatun, 35, from her room at noon in Kushtia. Mother of two, Tuni was married to Anwar Hossain at Malihad village in Mirpur upazila 10 years ago. Victim's family sources said, Anwar went for second marriage two years ago and since then stopped all help to Tuni and her two kids. Often they quarreled over the matter. On Friday night, they locked in an altercation when Anwar went to Tuni's house. Sources said, Anwar left Tuni's house late at night. On Saturday, her family members saw her body hanging from the ceiling. In Chuadanga, housewife Armina Khatun, 32, was killed allegedly by husband and in-laws at Kotali village in Sadar upazila. According to police, Armina was married to Hossain Ali two years ago. Hossain demanded Tk 2 lakh dowry from Armina's father soon after the marriage. Armina's father gave Tk 1 lakh to Hossain. When Armina's father refused to pay the rest amount, Hossain started to torture Armina. On Saturday, Hossain called Armina's father and said that Armina committed suicide.
