'Punish killers of three hill people'

Hundreds of students formed a human chain in the town yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of three hill people at Rupashipara village in Lama upazila under Bandarban district on Saturday. Bangladesh Marma Students Council and Progressive Marma Students Society jointly organised the programme held in Mukta Manch area. Addressing a rally at the venue, the participants strongly protested the incident and urged the government to ensure security of hill people in the three hill districts. President of Bangladesh Marma Students Council Mongshepru Marma, president of Progressive Marma Students Society Chathowai Marma and its member Mithun Chakma and Kusti Chakma spoke at the rally. Later, they brought out a protest procession and paraded different streets of the town. On Saturday, a gang of criminals made an attempt to rape a woman at Rupashipara village under Rupashipara union in Lama upazila. Hearing her scream, Aung Sha Marma, 62, Hamu Sing, 35, and his five-year-old son Maungnuching came to her rescue. The woman managed to flee but the criminals stabbed the three men to death to vent their anger. Police arrested one Mohammad Musa for his suspected involvement with the incident.
