11 fake policemen arrested in Dinajpur

Police yesterday arrested 11 people in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district as they went to a village in the guise of policemen allegedly to commit robbery, police said. The arrestees are Shohag, 25, of Rawshanpur village, Mahram Sarker, 23, of Tailtupi village, Shajahan Hossain 27, and Md Abdul Jalil, 30, Faruk Hossain, 26, also driver of the microbus carrying the 11 people, and Yarat Ali, 34, of Mukenpur village under Gurudaspur upazila, Mahbub Sarker, 29, and Sohel Rana, 27, of Nishchintapur village, Tohidul Islam, 26, and Faruk Hossain, 26, of Moharajpur village under Baraigram upazila, and Shafiqul Islam, 26, of Natore town. These eleven people with a hired microbus went to the house of Insan Ali at Chawkdafar village in Birganj upazila and introduced themselves as police of Birganj on early Sunday, said sources at Birganj police station. As the fake policemen also 'raided' the house of Mizanur Rahman of the same village, the villagers grew suspicious about their identity and secretly informed Birganj police of the matter. At around 10:30am yesterday, a police team from Birganj police station led by Sub Inspector Abdul Motin went to the spot and arrested the fake policemen. Dinesh Chandra Mohanda, chairman of Mohanpur union parishad under Birganj upazila, was present during the arrest. Later police took them to Birganj police station and filed a case against them, said Md Anisur Rahman, officer in charge of Birganj police station. Police also seized the microbus, Tk 4500 and eight cell phones from their possession.
