Indefinite transport strike called off
Indefinite strike by road transport workers in 10 districts of Khulna division was called off on Friday morning.
Khulna Divisional Transport Workers' Oiyko Parishad enforced the strike in 10 districts on Wednesday last to press home their five-point demand.
The decision to withdraw the strike on all 18 routes of 10 districts of Khulna division was taken at a meeting held on Thursday afternoon at the office of Bus Owners' Association in Jessore town.
Transport workers returned to work on Friday as the owners agreed to fulfil two out of their five demands, sources said.
The two demands accepted by bus owners are increase in salaries and regular appointment of transport workers.
The remaining three demands are withdrawal of cases under Section 302 of Bangladesh Penal Code for road accidents, steps to stop corruption and harassment at ferry ghats and stopping extortions on highways by police.
