Teachers protest stalking of colleague by BCL man
Teachers of Khalishpur Haji Mohsin College yesterday abstained from taking classes to protest stalking of a female teacher by a student on Monday.
They also formed a human chain in front of the college in the morning.
Besides class boycott, the teachers also threatened to go for tougher movement in case the college governing body fails to take stern action against the accused.
According to sources, stalker Imran Hossain Shabuj is joint secretary of the college unit of Chhatra League (BCL).
Vice Principal of the college Nazmul Ahsan said Shabuj, a student of third year class, teased a female lecturer of political science department while she was returning home on Monday afternoon. He hurled filthy remarks at the female professor, he said.
The female professor later submitted a petition to principal M A Rouf demanding stern action against the accused.
The said student had been teasing her since last one year on the campus and also on way to her house everyday, she alleged.
On Tuesday, 43 teachers of the college met state minister for labour Begum Mannujan Sufian seeking her intervention in the matter.
The state minister is chairman of the governing body of the college.
The state minister asked the principal to file a case against the stalker student, said OC Shahabuddin Azad.
Meanwhile, Imran Hossain Sabuj and some of his associates allegedly threatened the principal of dire consequences for lodging the complaint.
