Police arrest main accused Sumon

Police yesterday arrested Sumon, the main accused in housewife Nadira killing case, from Nazarpur village in Sadar upazila. Nadira Begum, 21, wife of Ismail Hossain of the village was burned to death allegedly by her in-laws on Friday last. Sumon confessed to police that he and his mother were involved in the killing. He also told newsmen that they had a long-standing feud with Ismail's wife. Sumon said, he and his mother planned to kill Nadira as she often locked in quarrel with his mother. On Friday night, they entered the room and tied up Nadira with her scarf and ropes and gagged her. Then Sumon doused kerosene on Nadira's body and set her on fire. He said, at around 9:30pm, cutting the straw made fence, he entered the room of Nadira in absence of Ismail. Before her death at hospital, Nadira said that Sumon set her on fire. The only witness to the incident, Nadim Hossain, four-year-old son of Nadira said his uncle Sumon entered the room and set his mother on fire after tying her with rope on the floor of the room. Victim's father Jasim Uddin lodged a case with Natore police station on Saturday noon accusing Sumon and his mother. Nasirul Islam, superintendent of police in Natore said, police yesterday placed Sumon before a Natore court and the court sent him to jail.
