43 BDR men relieved of sedition charges

Sedition cases against 43 jawans of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) Jessore sector have been withdrawn as per directive of the home ministry. Jessore District and Sessions Judge Azizul Islam relieved the jawans of sedition charges following an appeal made by the public prosecutor (PP) on July 20, court sources said. On May 13 in 2009, the then officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station Abdul Kader Baig filed sedition cases against 43 jawans, including deputy assistant director (DAD) Md Modasser Uddin, of 22 Jhumjhumpur Battalion under BGB Jessore sector with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court for their involvement in a mutiny at the battalion on February 26 in 2009. On the following day, police and Rab members arrested the accused and produced them in the court. The court sent the accused to Jessore Central Jail, rejecting their bail petition. The case was later sent to the District and Sessions Judge's Court for trial. The accused against whom sedition charges have been withdrawn are DAD Modasser Uddin, naik subedars Jarjid Ali and Mahbub Alam, havilders Fazlur Rahman, Golam, Manoranjan, Toufiqul, Zahidul, Aslam, Amirul, Abul and Shafiqul, Naik Amjad, lance naiks Delwar Abdul Mannan,, Abdus Samad, Faruk Hossain and Lutfor Rahman, sepoys Azhar Ali, Mintu, Mohirul, Jalal, Aminul Islam, Hafizur Rahman, Aminul, Nazrul, Abdur Rahim, Ruhul Amin, Shipon, Farhad, Sajedur Rahman, Arif, Abul Hashem, Mokaddes Ali, Sirajul Islam, Mujibar Rahman, Matin, Delwar, Khairul, Hirangi, Ruhul and Rezaul.
