<i>CCTVs in Panchagarh town to stop stalking</i>

The district administration has set up CC TVs at three points in Panchagarh town to resist stalking and sexual harassment. Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Tofazzol Hossain formally inaugurated the programme at a function at the conference room of his office on Wednesday. "To resist the social menace of stalking, we have initially set up three CC TV surveillance system at different places to monitor the matter efficiently. Whenever such an incident will be seen on the monitor of CC TV police team with an executive magistrate will be sent to the spot," the DC said. Within a short time several CC TVs will be set up at some other important places in the town that are regularly used by the school and college going girls, he said. "It is possible to effectively check stalking as well as other crimes with the help of modern technology. The surveillance system has already been appreciated as a cost effective crime prevention device in the developed countries," the official added. Officials of district and police administration, journalists, teachers and other professionals were present at the programme. Recently the incidents of stalking and sexual harassment have increased in the town, locals said.
