4 commit 'suicide' in Satkhira
Two housewives, an old man and an adolescent girl allegedly committed suicide in the district in the last 4-5 days.
The victims were identified as Bhujan Mondal, 57 of village Dakkhin Atulia in Shyamnagar upazila, Halima Khatun, 40 wife of Abdul Momin Mithu of village Nathpur in Kalaroa upazila, Rupa Khatun, 13 daughter of Abdul Mazed of village Kashempur in Sadar upazila and Dolly Akhtar, 26 wife of Md Masud Hossain alias Khokon of Puraton Satkhira in the town.
Quoting local people police said, Bhujan Mondal committed suicide by hanging from a branch of a tree near his house at village Dakkhin Atulia at about 7-30 am on July 19.
As his son Debashish Mondal married Kalpona Rani Mondal of the same village ignoring his wish, he committed suicide, police said.
Halima Khatun committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at village Nathpur at about 8-30 pm on July 18.
Following a family feud, Rupa Khatun, a class seven student of Rasulpur High School in the town committed suicide in the same way at her house at about 9-30 pm on July 18.
Police said, Dolly Akhtar married Masud Hossain two years ago following an affair over cell phone.
When Dolly came to know that she is the second wife of Masud, she protested it. She used to raise the question why Masud married her and spoiled her life.
Over the issue, Masud began to torture her mercilessly. Failing to bear it anymore, Dolly took poison at about 7-30 am on July 17.
