A large number of teachers, students and people from cross sections of the society joined a human chain in Ishwardi Bus terminal area yesterday demanding acquittal of Basherbanda High School Headmaster Md Shamsul Islam on a 'false charge'. The headmaster, sentenced to four months' imprisonment by a mobile court on charge of sexual harassment on July 10, was freed on bail Sunday. The teachers, agitating for acquittal of the 'innocent' headmaster, demanded proper investigation into the conspiracy that led to his implication in the 'false charge'. Alleging torture on the headmaster by local police, speakers at the protest rally demanded action against the culprits. Bangladesh Shikkhak Parishad, Ishwardi upazila unit organised the human chain and protest rally in the morning. They also held a press conference at Ishwardi Press Club. Afroza Begum, principal of Ishwardi Mohila College, Aynul Haque, president of Ishwardi upazila unit of Bangladesh Shikkhak Parishad, its secretary Emdadul Haque and teachers of different educational institutions spoke at the rally. After getting release on bail, Headmaster Md Shamsul Islam joined his school and academic activities resumed at the institution after several days of suspension since July 10. The managing committee of Basherbanda High School on Monday issued a notice, asking five teachers, who allegedly plotted the July 10 incident against the headmaster, not to come to school until the problem is solved.
