Two Tahrir activists arrested in Sylhet
Police arrested two operatives of banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir at Lamabazar in Sylhet city on Saturday night and recovered books on jihad and leaflets from them.
The arrestees are Ashrafuzzama, 22, a fourth year student of industrial and production engineering (IPE) department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), and Mahbub Iqbal ,16, an HSC candidate from Madan Mohan College.
Police said they arrested the two activists of Hizb-ut-Tahrir while they were distributing books on jihad and leaflets of the banned outfit at the bazaar at around 8:00pm.
On Sunday, police produced the two in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court that sent them to jail.
“We will take proper action if any student of our university is proved to be involved with the banned outfit.” said Himadri Sekhar Roy, assistant proctor of SUST.
