Man killed in clash over disputed land
A man was killed and his two brothers were injured yesterday when two groups of locals, divided into Awami League (AL) and BNP folds, locked in a fierce clash over a piece of disputed land.
Deceased Mukul Ahmed Biswas, 45, of Bishnudia village was an AL activist.
Chokder Abdul Halim, assistant superintendent of police, said the killing was a sequel to a longstanding dispute between Mukul and Masud Biswas over a piece of khas land.
The clash ensued when Masud, organising secretary of Bishnudia unit of BNP, resisted Mukul, who went to construct a road across the disputed land, in the morning.
Both have been claiming ownership of the land for long, Abdul Halim said.
Altercation between the rivals at a stage triggered a clash between the supporters of the two. Mukul's supporters vandalised around 10 houses of his rival group.
Angered by this, the supporters of Masud attacked Mukul with a locally made spear-like weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.
On getting the news, Mukul's two brothers rushed to rescue him but they were also attacked by the supporters of Masud.
Brutally beaten up, Bipul Ahmed and Antu Biswas were admitted to Kushtia Sadar Hosptal.
