Four baby girls, boy drown in 3 districts
Four baby girls, aged between three and five years, drowned in Chandpur and Sirajganj districts yesterday.
Jesmin, 5, daughter of Monir Hossain and Sumaiya, 5, daughter of late Mohammad Jahangir of Ronagoal area of Chandpur Puran Bazaar drowned in the Meghna River yesterday noon, reports our correspondent.
Family members said the two girls were playing near the bank of the river. Suddenly they fell in the river and drowned.
After a long search, locals found their bodies floating in the river.
A pall of gloom descended on the area.
Our Sirajganj correspondent adds: two siblings-- Rina Khatun,5, and Mitu, 3,-- drowned in a pond yesterday noon. They are daughters of Abdul Bari of Amsora village under Salonga PS in the district.
Local people said, the two sisters were playing by a pond near their house. At one stage, they fell into water and drowned. Their bodies were found floating in the pond in the afternoon.
In Manikganj, a six-year-old boy drowned in a pond at Paril Nawadha village under Singair upazila, reports our correspondent.
The victim was identified as Hasib, son of Lokman Hossain of the village.
Another child, identified as Tia, 5,daughter of Sheher Ali, was rescued from the pond.
Locals said, the children went to take bath in the pond. A passer-by saw a girl trying to get out of the pond water at around 3:00 pm. The man rescued the girl, Tia, but found Hasib dead in the water.
Tia was taken to Singair upazila health complex for treatment.
