Couple, 2 women commit 'suicide'

A couple allegedly committed suicide in Mymensingh while two women killed themselves in separate places of Pabna on Saturday. Nazim Uddin, 45, a farmer and his wife Hasina Akhtar, 35, of Kamat village in Kachina union of Bhaluka in Mymensingh allegedly committed suicide on Saturday, reports our correspondent. Police said, the couple committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling of their house following a feud over family affairs. They had two sons- Abdul Hannan, 20, and Harunur Rashid, 18. Family sources said, Nazim Uddin, son of late Abdul Gani was slightly lunatic and the couple used to lock in altercation over family matters. Following an altercation on Saturday night, Hasina might have committed suicide first while Nazim Uddin followed her, said Narendra Nath Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhaluka police station. In Pabna, two women allegedly committed suicide in separate places of Iswardi upazila on Saturday, reports our correspondent. Sources said Merina Khatun, 30, wife of Idris Ali, committed suicide by hanging herself at Masuriapara in the upazila headquarters following a family feud. Family sources said Idris had enmity with his brother Anis and Idris was sent to jail recently in a case filed by Anis. Idris's wife requested Anis to withdraw the case. Refused by Anis, Merina allegedly killed herself. In another incident, Najmunnahar Begum, 48, of Dhulti-Boharpur area of the upazila became seriously shocked following the death of her only son in road mishap last year. She took several attempts to commit suicide since then. On Saturday, she took poison and fell seriously sick. She died after admission at Iswardi Hospital.
