Barbaric punishment to madrasa boy

A teacher of Darul Ulm Madrasa and Orphanage in Digholia upazila under Khulna district has been sacked for inflicting barbaric punishment to a ten-year-old boy, keeping him chained in a classroom for three days. Ali Shah, son of late Lutfor Molla, and a student of Qiraat class of the madrasa, faced the wrath of his teacher Qaari Md Golam Kibria for playing truant from his class off and on, madrasa sources said. On last Tuesday, Golam Kibria kept the boy confined to a classroom with his hands and legs tied up with an iron chain. On Thursday afternoon, he tied a heavy log to Ali Shah's back, took him to a nearby pond, and tried to shove him into the water. Hearing scream of the hapless boy, locals rushed there and rescued him. They beat up the teacher and confined him to the same room of the madrasa where Ali Shah was earlier kept. The madrasa managing committee at a meeting on Thursday night decided to sack Golam Kibria. Qaari Golam Kibria has been sacked for physically torturing Ali Shah, chairman of the madrasa managing committee Moulana Mujibar Rahman told this correspondent on Saturday. "Ali Shah's classmates Shahin Howlader, Shakib and Ashik narrated to me the barbaric corporeal punishment given by the teacher to the minor boy. The same teacher inflicted such punishment to another student Rezwan, 12, about two months ago," he said. Qaari Md Golam Kibria could not be contacted for his comment about the matter as he went into hiding soon after the madrasa committee's decision to sack him.
