Probe body findings will not be disclosed

The probe body formed after the attack on the trainee nurses at Mymensingh Nursing College (MNC) by the fourth class employees of Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) on June 13, finally submitted its report yesterday. The committee, missing two deadlines earlier, sought five more days on June 28 and it was due to submit its report on July 3. But it missed the third deadline also. Earlier, a six-member probe body, headed by Prof Dr Motiur Rahman of surgery department, was formed on June 14, the day after the incident and it was due to submit its report to the MMCH authorities. Contacted, director of MMCH Brigadier General Dr Mohammad Shahjahan said, he received a 60-page probe report but he is yet to go through the report. "The findings in the report will not be disclosed to anybody as it is a departmental inquiry", said the director. The report will be sent to higher authorities if they want, he added. Contacted, probe body head Prof Dr Motiur Rahman told this correspondent that they submitted the report in full to MMCH authorities yesterday. He also refused to disclose the contents of the report. According to hospital sources, a separate probe body formed by directorate general of Health and Family Welfare will visit the hospital on July 12 to investigate the June 13 incident. At least 35 people were injured as trainee nurses and employees of MMCH locked in a series of clashes on June 13. Among the injured, 30 are students of MNC. Later the trainee nurses went on a week- long agitation programme including class boycott, formation of human chains, sit-in procession and rallies protesting the attack. All academic activities of MNC including examinations remained suspended during the agitation.
