Under Marking at Exam Alleged
Sust English deptt students lock office, teachers' rooms
The fourth year first semester students of English department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) in Sylhet yesterday locked the office and rooms of the departmental teachers in protest against alleged under marking at a course examination.
Examinations under BNG-101 course of first year first semester and ENG-424 course of fourth year second semester could not be held due to the turmoil, university sources said.
The agitating students of English department alleged that course teacher Panna Majumder under marked their answer scripts in ENG-316 course titled 'History of Ideas'.
They said the teacher is not accustomed to the marking pattern according to the grading system of Sust as he had passed from another public university.
They also demanded taking back from him the answer scripts of another examination under ENG-312 course titled '17th Century Prose'. The result of the examination under the course has not yet been published.
The Sust authorities has formed a probe committee headed by Dr AKM Mahbubuzzaman, dean of the school of social science. The other members are Dr Md Ati Ullah, head of English department, Dr Himadri Sekhar Roy of the same department and Dr Neaz Ahmed of social work department.
"We the probe body members have already persuaded the students to participate in all the examinations from now on. I am hopeful of solving the problem easily," the probe body chief said.
Contacted, Panna Majumder said, “I always maintain good relations with all my students but remain unbiased while giving marks.”
