21 fishermen abducted by pirates rescued
Twenty one fishermen, who were abducted by pirates from Dublarchar area of the Sundarbans in Shoronkhola upazila on June 25 for ransom, were rescued from Harbaria area of the Sundarbans yesterday.
The pirates abducted the fishermen along with three trawlers and took them to deep forest of the Sundarbans and tortured them for ransom.
They also looted the hilsha fish, fishing nets and fuel from the trawlers.
A combined team of Khulna Rab-6, Bagerhat police and officials of Sundarbans east zone led by members of Mongla west zone coastguards launched a special drive against notorious pirate gang 'Nasir Bahini' at 12 midnight and rescued 21 fishermen at around 6:00 am.
The rescued fishermen were taken to Shoronkhola police station, said Lt Badruddoza of Coastguards Mongla west zone operation team.
Lt Momen of Coastguards Mongla west zone said they would continue their 'Operation Sundarbans' until the arrest of all the gang members of Nasir Bahini.
Four pirates of notorious 'Zulfikar Bahini' including its leader Zulfikar were killed in a shootout with Rab last month.
