JCD men assault Rajshahi Govt College principal, vice principal

Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) assaulted the principal and vice-principal of Rajshahi Government College on the campus on Wednesday night. Third year resident students of the female hostel, who have been agitating since Tuesday demanding cancellation of session fee, confined hostel superintendent Ashraf Ali to his office room in the evening. Hearing the news, Principal Ali Reza M Abdul Majid and Vice-Principal Habibur Rahman along with some BCL leaders went to the hostel at around 8:00pm. presence of BCL leaders at the female hostel enraged the resident students. They kept the principal, vice principal and BCL leaders confined to the office room for an hour. In the meantime, JCD activists gathered on the road in front of the female hostel and started chanting slogans against BCL intrusion into the dormitory. As the principal and the vice-Principal came out of the hostel at around 9:30pm, the JCD men swooped on them, alleging that the two are patronising the BCL. The JCD activists also chased the BCL leaders who later came out of the female hostel. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and rescued the principal and vice-principal. Vice-Principal Rahman received injury in the nose and was given first aid at a clinic. At around 10:30pm, around 300 BCL men brought out a procession in the city protesting attack on their leaders by JCD activists. A tense situation was prevailing in the city as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
