Hartal, processions in Brahmanbaria
A half-day hartal was observed in the district town and Sarail upazila headquarters yesterday protesting a reported move by the authorities concerned to merge Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company with Bakharabad Gas System Company.
Vehicles were off the roads while shops, business establishments, private offices and educational institutions in the town remained closed during the hartal called by Brahmanbaria Zila Nagorik Committee.
Several processions were brought out in the town during hartal hours, No untoward incidents occurred.
Addressing a rally in the town, Nagorik Committee President Advocate Abdus Samad said the authorities concerned are trying to place Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company in Brahmanbaria under the administration of Bakharabad Gas System Company in Comilla.
He urged the authorities concerned not to change the name of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company. He said the people of Brahmanbaria will go for a tougher agitation if the name is changed.
