Two teenage girls, housewife commit 'suicide'

Two teenage girls and a woman allegedly committed suicide in Thakurgaon and Rajshahi on Monday and Saturday. A teenage college girl allegedly committed suicide on Monday evening at Sindurai village under Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon, reports our correspondent. Identified as Ismat Ara, 17, she was daughter of Monsur Ali and also a student of first year at Nekmarad Bangabandhu College. Quoting victim's family members, sub-inspector of Thakurgaon police station Atiqur Rahaman said, she committed suicide at about 7:00pm at a room of her house by taking poison. In another incident, a housewife allegedly killed herself at Ghonibistapur village under Sadar upazila on the same night. Deceased Shahanaz Akhter, 20, was daughter of Fazlur Rahman of the same village. Police and family sources said Shahanaz committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at about 9:30pm. Reasons behind the suicides could not be known immediately. Two unnatural death (UD) cases were filed with Thakurgaon police station. In Rajshahi, a young woman allegedly committed suicide at a police officers' quarters inside Boalia police station compound on Saturday, reports our staff correspondent. Victim Mita Khanam, 18, was a HSC examinee and daughter of Bazlur Rahman of Sujanagar, Pabna. Sister-in-law of SI Shamim Uddin of the PS, she had come to visit her sister a couple of days after the end of her examinations. Shamim's eight-year-old daughter saw her hanging from the ceiling at around 12:00pm but the couple was not at home at that time, police said. SI Shamim said Mita had an affair with a youth. He said she had talks with the boy minutes before committing suicide.
