<i>Youth beaten to death just for a cellphone set</i>
A youth was beaten to death for allegedly stealing a cellphone set yesterday.
The youth was identified as Kabir, 28, of Bashbaria village under Galachipa upazila.
Police and locals said, a cell phone went missing from the house of Ruhul Amin Gazi, a retired police constable of Bashbaria village on Monday night.
Suspecting that Kabir took away the phone set, Ruhul Amin and his nephew Kamal called the youth from his house.
First they beat up Kabir at Ruhul Amin's house. As Kabir denied his involvement, Ruhul Amin hung the youth from the branch of a banyan tree and continued beating him.
Kabir died on the spot and Ruhul along with his nephew fled the scene.
Being informed, Nazrul Islam, SI of Galachipa police station, rushed to the spot and sent the body to Patuakhali morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile local people brought out a procession in the area, demanding immediate arrest and punishment to Ruhul Amin and his nephew Kamal.
