Criminals capture truck, killing driver, helper
Criminals took away a poultry feed-laden truck, killing its driver and helper and dumping their bodies in a roadside pond at Ranobag in Mathurapur-Singra area of Nandigram in Bogra on Saturday.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies of driver Delwar Hossain, 45, of Abadpur village in Naogaon Sadar upazila and helper Abdul Barik, 34, of Chakprasad village, and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy in the afternoon.
The truck was later recovered along with the goods in an abandoned condition from Padma residential area in Boalia of Rajshahi yesterday morning.
Police said one Enamul Haque is the owner of the truck which was hijacked from Bogra-Sirajganj road on its way to Nazirpur of Patnitola of Naogaon from Shyampur of Dhaka early Saturday.
The district truck owners and workers associations in separate statements expressed concern over growing incidents of looting goods-laden trucks, killing drivers and helpers on highways in Bogra-Naogaon-Sirajganj region.
They said this is the second time that goods-laden truck is taken away after killing the driver and the helper on the highway.
A Dhaka-bound rice-laden truck from Naogaon was looted killing its driver Elamul, 40, of Hapania of Naogaon Sadar upazila and his assistant and the bodies were dumped in a lake in Banani in the capital on January 8, they said.
They demanded immediate arrest of the killers of the four transport workers and step to ensure security of truck drivers and helpers on highways.
