<i>Lucky finally gets rid of all agony</i>
A madrassa student who allegedly attempted to commit suicide after being stalked by a local youth 11 days ago, succumbed to injuries at Shardiar village in Ataikula upazila Friday evening.
Victim Shanima Akhter Lucky, 14, was a class VIII student of Kasarpur Dakhil Madrassa and daughter of Abdul Gafur of the village.
OC of Ataikula police station Habibul Islam said Momin Mollah, 20, son of Sobhan Mollah of the same village used to sexually harass Lucky on her way to madrassa since long.
On June 13 morning, Momin gave her an indecent proposal near the madrassa and harassed her physically in front of locals when she turned down his proposal.
On return home, an extremely shocked Lucky attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself with the help of a scarf.
Her family members rescued her and took her to Pabna Medical College and Hospital. As her condition deteriorated she was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
She was brought back home on Friday for taking her to Dhaka for better treatment. But her condition deteriorated further and she died in the afternoon.
Police handed over the body to her family after post-mortem on Saturday.
Lucky's father filed a case against Momin and his father Sobhan Mollah. But the accused have gone into hiding.
In another incident, Bidyut Kumar Chakraborty,12, son of Sukumar Chakraborty of Bonogram village under Ataikula PS allegedly committed suicide early Saturday.
A student of Dulai College in Pabna, Bidyut hanged himself for failing to marry his beloved, police said.
