26 shops, 3 houses gutted
At least 26 shops and three dwelling houses were gutted in Munshiganj and Khulna districts yesterday and the day before.
Fifteen shops were gutted in a devastating fire in Munshiganj which broke out at Balasur bazaar in Srinagar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Local people said the fire originated at a shop of the bazaar at about 6:30am and soon engulfed the adjacent 14 shops. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
On information, fire brigade personnel from the upazila headquarters rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people after three hours of frantic efforts.
The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 50 lakh.
In Khulna, at least 11 shops and three dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Bhandercot bazaar in Batiaghata upazila Friday.
Local people said the fire broke out after an electric short circuit at a grocery shop of Ahad Gazi at noon and soon it spread to nearby other shops and houses.
The fire gutted four grocery shops, five tea stalls, one hardware store and one sweetmeat shop and three dwelling houses.
On information, local fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control with the help of local people.
The affected shop and house owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 30 lakh were gutted in the fire.
