Jubo League leader fells roadside trees
A local leader of Jubo League (JL), youth front of ruling Awami League (AL), felled at least 12 roadside trees worth over Tk 70,000 in Tala upazila on Wednesday.
Being informed by locals, upazila nirbahi officer Mahbubur Rahman asked the upazila assistant commissioner (land) Hasan Habib yesterday to take step in this regard.
Hasan Habib and union land officer Kazi Monirul Rashid of Tala Sadar union rushed to Harishchandrakatu-Rahimabad road, seized the felled trees and brought them to Tala Sadar union land office, sources said.
Locals alleged that plunderer Mizan Goldar, a member of Tala upazila Jubo League committee, felled the trees on both sides of the road.
They said they tried to resist him but failed.
Later, finding no other alternative, they informed the matter to the UNO who took steps to seize the trees.
Contacted, Mizan Goldar claimed that he bought the trees from one Sabur Master of the area but failed to give details.
Locals yesterday demanded arrest and punishment to Mizan for bid to grab the government trees.
Contacted, UNO Mahbubur Rahman said stern action would be taken against the accused. Preparation is on to file az case against him, he added.
