3 held on ballot paper snatching charge

Police yesterday arrested three youths on charge of snatching ballot papers from a polling centre in Daldali Union of Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday night, reports our correspondent. The arrestees are Bairul Islam, 25, Jentu, 20 and Mizanur Rahman, 18, of Jinnahnagar village under the upazila. Police said the three were arrested following a case filed by the presiding officer of Nazirpur Government Primary School centre in Daldali Union with Bholahat Police Station, accusing over 50 people. In the case statement, the complainant alleged that the supporters of member candidate Arjed Ali Bhutu equipped with sticks and sharp weapons stormed into the polling centre while counting of votes was going on. They assaulted the law enforcers and snatched about 600 to700 ballot papers, he stated. Our Nilphamari correspondent adds: Police found over 329 ballot papers near three voting centres Gayabari Union of Dimla upazila yesterday. Elections to all the 10 union parishads in the upazila were held on June 12 and results were declared the same day. Local people of Dhakkhin Gayabari village of the union saw the ballot papers having seal on the symbols behind Phutanir Hat Dakhil madrasa, Phutanir Hat Government Primary Cchool and Kalir Danga Government Primary School centres and informed the UNO and Dimla Police Station. Being informed, UNO Mizanur Rahman along with a contingent of police reached the spot and recovered the ballot papers.
